Balenciaga Secondhand: How the brand reinvents luxury

Circular thinking is on everyone's lips right now. But while the high street is openly talking about it and (trying to) take the first steps, the luxury industry is keeping a low profile. Balenciaga is breaking through this sound barrier for the first time.

Balenciaga is launching a circular economy programme to help its customers resell their own Balenciaga garments and accessories.

This is part of the house's mission to become a fully sustainable company. In collaboration with Reflaunt, a platform that aims to implement circular models for fashion brands, Balenciaga will offer expert consignment support to its customers. Customers who choose to resell will be rewarded with financial compensation or a Balenciaga credit.

And this is how the Balenciaga Resell Programme works

As part of the Balenciaga Re-Sell programme, products can be dropped off at participating Balenciaga shops or collected through a service available via balenciaga.com.

Items are then documented, authenticated, professionally photographed, priced and listed on part of the Reflaunt global network, which includes more than 25 secondary marketplaces. After being purchased second-hand, they are then shipped to their new home.

As proceeds for the resale, the original owner:s are offered a sum of money or a credit. The credit can be used to purchase new Balenciaga items at a selection of participating shops.
